Tomato Cottage Cheese Rice Bowls
This is an assembly recipe using rice that is already cooked and fully chilled. The adult checks the rice and chops a round tomato; the young cook folds together the cool ingredients. Cottage cheese makes a soft dressing without needing mayonnaise.

Before you begin · grown-up check
The grown-up supplies and checks safely chilled cooked rice and chops the tomato; the child combines the cold ingredients.
- Together wash hands with soap and water and clean the work surface.
- Adult checks ingredient labels, equipment and task suitability; ages are starting guides, not a guarantee of readiness.
- Rice must be cooked and chilled in advance, never left on the counter to cool. Use rice cooked within the past day or a refrigerated ready-to-eat pack explicitly suitable for cold serving. Advance rice cooking is not included in this 12-minute assembly time.
- Adult handles the tomato knife and rice temperature check.
Ages are a starting guide. A grown-up checks your readiness and stays nearby. Follow the actor label on every step.

The skill you’re learning
A soft cheese can act as a dressing. Folding keeps the rice grains and tomato pieces separate while the cottage cheese spreads among them.
Try one change
Use 1 cup fully chilled cooked white rice instead of brown rice, with the same adult storage check.
Serving & storing
Refrigerate covered at 40°F or below within 2 hours of preparation (1 hour above 90°F); use within 1 day. For a packed lunch, use an insulated lunch bag with two cold sources and keep chilled until eating; discard uneaten packed portions after lunch. Use within 1 day of when the rice was cooked, or the rice pack’s shorter limit.
