Lemon Couscous Spinach Bowls
Couscous softens while it stands in hot water, so the grown-up handles the pouring and steam. After the grains are fluffy and cool enough to touch safely, the young cook can stir in spinach, roasted pepper and crumbled feta.

Before you begin · grown-up check
The grown-up boils and measures the hot water, handles the hot bowl and cover, fluffs the couscous and checks cooling before the child finishes it.
- Together wash hands with soap and water and clean the work surface.
- Adult checks ingredient labels, equipment and task suitability; ages are starting guides, not a guarantee of readiness.
- Adult handles all kettle, boiling-water and steam steps; the child works with the bowl only after cooling is checked.
Ages are a starting guide. A grown-up checks your readiness and stays nearby. Follow the actor label on every step.

The skill you’re learning
Fluffing means lifting and separating small grains with a fork. Do it after the covered standing time rather than stirring the couscous constantly as it absorbs water.
Try one change
Replace the feta with 2 tbsp shredded cheddar.
Serving & storing
Refrigerate covered at 40°F or below within 2 hours of preparation (1 hour above 90°F); use within 1 day. For a packed lunch, use an insulated lunch bag with two cold sources and keep chilled until eating; discard uneaten packed portions after lunch. For cold lunch, refrigerate promptly in shallow containers and chill fully before packing.
