Cucumber Tuna Rice Bowls
Cool rice gives this tuna mixture a soft base, and diced cucumber adds a fresh crunch. This recipe starts with rice already cooked and chilled. The adult checks that rice, opens the can and handles the cucumber knife; the young cook makes the dressing.

Before you begin · grown-up check
The grown-up supplies and checks safely chilled rice, opens and drains the tuna and chops the cucumber.
- Together wash hands with soap and water and clean the work surface.
- Adult checks ingredient labels, equipment and task suitability; ages are starting guides, not a guarantee of readiness.
- Rice must be cooked and chilled in advance and kept refrigerated, never left on the counter to cool. Use rice cooked within the past day or a refrigerated ready-to-eat pack explicitly suitable for cold serving. Advance rice cooking is not included in this 15-minute assembly time.
- Adult handles can edges, the cucumber knife and the rice temperature check.
Ages are a starting guide. A grown-up checks your readiness and stays nearby. Follow the actor label on every step.

The skill you’re learning
Flaking tuna before mixing spreads it through the dressing without needing more mayonnaise. The cucumber should stay in little pieces rather than being mashed.
Try one change
Replace the tuna with 1/2 cup canned chickpeas, opened, drained, rinsed and roughly mashed with the adult’s help; egg remains in the mayonnaise.
Serving & storing
Refrigerate covered at 40°F or below within 2 hours of preparation (1 hour above 90°F); use within 1 day. For a packed lunch, use an insulated lunch bag with two cold sources and keep chilled until eating; discard uneaten packed portions after lunch. Use within 1 day of when the rice was cooked, or an ingredient’s shorter label limit.
