Cucumber Cream Cheese Boats
A cucumber can hold its own filling after the watery seeds are scooped out. The adult shapes the boats, and the young cook mixes a mild chive cream cheese and adds carrot shreds. There is no need for toothpicks, flags or sails.

Before you begin · grown-up check
The grown-up cuts and hollows the cucumber; the child mixes the cream cheese and fills the prepared boats.
- Together wash hands with soap and water and clean the work surface.
- Adult checks ingredient labels, equipment and task suitability; ages are starting guides, not a guarantee of readiness.
- Adult handles the knife and seed-channel scooping before the child fills the cucumber.
Ages are a starting guide. A grown-up checks your readiness and stays nearby. Follow the actor label on every step.

The skill you’re learning
A shallow channel holds filling better than a very thin shell. Leave enough cucumber at the bottom so the boat is sturdy when you pick it up.
Try one change
Replace the dried chives with 1/4 tsp dried dill.
Serving & storing
Refrigerate covered at 40°F or below within 2 hours of preparation (1 hour above 90°F); use within 1 day. Best within 1 day; keep the filled boats level in a lidded container.
