This library brings together the 600 profiles in Artists of the Past and the 600 in Artists by Medium. Each record opens the artist’s exact profile in the original article.
How to explore
Search names, aliases, selected work titles, movements, and source places. Combine filters, or select two or three artists to compare. Related artists are chosen through shared practices, recorded movements, birth centuries, or country labels. Each connection tells you why it appears.
What the records support
Wikidata supplies the earlier series’ structured identities and dates; the source biographies retain revision links and CC BY-SA attribution. The Met supplies 360 item-level records in the medium series. Another 240 records link to museums, archives, artists, and other specialist sources.
Countries include historical citizenships and The Met’s nationality labels; they are not a map of where every artist worked. “Born in” uses recorded birth years, with source wording retained in each record. Unrecorded values are searchable using “Not recorded”.
Images and authorship
Images appear for 960 artists, using the existing series’ item-level open/public-domain records. Every artwork has a source and credit. The 240 experimental-medium profiles link to the original work pages; their artwork images have not been cleared for republication. No generated medium illustrations are presented as artists’ works.
Source attribution can be disputed even when database creator links agree. The library retains qualified credits and adds a museum-sourced note to Leonardo’s Budapest Horse and Rider. Read the original source when attribution matters.

The two corpora were checked for duplicate names, Wikidata identities, complete profile text, all 1,200 authored profile anchors, and artwork creator/image-rights metadata. No duplicate identities or complete profiles were found. Catalog sentence patterns repeat in the medium series, so this library presents shorter record summaries.
This is a structured corpus audit with targeted source review, not an independent scholarly re-verification of every biography. Known missing source details remain visible.
