A short climb with a visible return

Optional sound starts only after you press Play. Begin at a low device volume. Each run ends automatically after 24 steps, and Stop works at any time.

No audio is loaded or played automatically. If the effect is uncomfortable, stop. You can explore every value silently with the Next button.

Adjust this experiment’s sound. At 0%, the sequence runs silently.

Silent. Loop step 0 of 12.
ComponentFrequency (Hz)Amplitude weight
How this version is built

For each chromatic step s = 0…11, frequencies are 55 × 2^(k + s/12) Hz for k=0…6. Amplitude follows exp(−0.5[log₂(f/440)/1.15]²), then weights are normalized. A 0.25-second sine-wave note occurs every 0.36 seconds. The single-component version uses k = 3 alone, exposing its octave reset. This finite educational synthesis is not a replication of the 1964 experiment. Headphones are optional.
