An empty state and an occupied state

A simplified Sabine calculation, using invented total absorption values. It does not assign a universal absorption value to a person.

Ideal normalized decay linesTwo straight decibel-decay lines start at zero and fall to minus 60 dB at their calculated reverberation time.0 dB−60 dBTime

Orange: empty state. Teal: occupied state. Each line is an idealized straight decay in decibels; the sound itself is not being played.

Assumptions

T≈0.161 × V / A, with V in cubic meters and A in square meters of equivalent absorption. Values refer to one notional frequency band. Diffuse-field and absorption assumptions may fail in real rooms. This model omits early reflections, noise, geometry, diffraction, and frequency variation. It is not an architectural design calculation.
