Follow the pollination chain

A reading worksheet for the turtlegrass research. A completed earlier step does not establish every later one. Print or save and add notes from a source.

On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to see every column. You can also focus the table and use the arrow keys.

StepEvidence to look forHow could water also contribute?
VisitAnimal reaches a male flower.
PickupPollen adheres to its body.
DeliveryPollen reaches a receptive stigma after transport.
Pollen growthGermination and tube formation are observed.

Control question: If an enclosure excludes animals but also changes flow, which two explanations could account for a change in pollen delivery?

Scope question: Does the evidence show that animals can contribute, or does it estimate their share of all pollination in a natural meadow?

Further stages such as fertilization and seed production require their own evidence. Do not extend a pollen-tube result to a measured seed yield unless the study did so.
