Pickle-Pepper Tuna Ramen
About 15 minutes, estimated · 2 portions · Hot water

Original commissary-inspired pantry recipe
Pickle brine is an easy way to put brightness into a pantry noodle bowl. It belongs in the dressing, not the noodle water, where most of its flavor would disappear down the drain.
Place & evidence: Across the country. This is an original pantry recipe. The source supplies ingredient or technique context, rather than evidence that this exact dish is served in a prison. Inventory and place labels describe that context only. FCI Danbury Commissary List.
Make it
Equipment: Heat-safe bowl or mug; clean spoon; measuring cup and spoons; safe hot-water source. Use the cooking equipment required by the product label.
Ingredients
- 2 packages instant ramen, 3 oz each
- Water as ramen label directs
- 1 ready-to-eat tuna pouch, 2.6 oz
- 1/4 cup diced dill pickle
- 1 tbsp pickle brine
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise from newly opened packets
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
Method
- Cook the noodles by the package directions. Drain thoroughly and leave uncovered for 1 minute so excess steam escapes.
- In a separate mixing bowl, stir the pickle brine, mayonnaise and pepper until smooth.
- Drain any loose liquid from the tuna pouch. Fold tuna and diced pickle into the dressing, leaving some fish in flakes.
- Add the warm noodles and turn gently until coated. Divide into two portions and serve promptly as a warm salad.
The useful detail
Let steam escape for a minute before adding mayonnaise so the dressing stays creamy.
When the store is different
Use ready-to-eat chicken or white beans in place of tuna.
Serving & handling
Mix moist ingredients close to serving. Keep opened or mixed perishables refrigerated if they are not being eaten promptly. Read the pantry and food-handling guide for storage limits, package directions and allergen checks.
